Education can change the story

Our mission

The Albatros Foundation

We change the life stories of children and young people through education.

We support those who do not have the same starting opportunities, so their future can be shaped by their talent and determination — not by the circumstances they were born into.

Supporting children at the moments that shape their future

Our priorities

The Albatros Foundation supports children and young people from socially disadvantaged backgrounds – those who do not have the same opportunities to learn, read, develop their talents and shape their future as their peers.

We focus on the key moments in their educational journey: early childhood, the transition from elementary to secondary school, university studies and the first personal and career steps in early adulthood.

Books and reading are a natural part of this journey. They open up new worlds, develop language skills and imagination, nurture curiosity and a love of learning and help children see what they can achieve.

Start Early

We support the youngest children and their parents so that children can enter preschool and primary school prepared, confident and filled with a passion for learning.

Keep on track

We guide young people through the transition from primary to secondary education, helping them continue their studies through scholarships, mentoring and other forms of support.

Go as Far as Possible

We support young people who are motivated to continue studying but lack the financial resources, supportive background or professional networks they need. We help them succeed at university and open up pathways to their future careers.

How reading helps children

Books open up new worlds

Through books, children discover places, people and possibilities they might not otherwise encounter.

Stories build confidence

When children see themselves, their experiences or their hopes reflected in stories, it becomes easier for them to believe that their own path can lead further.

Reading supports learning

Reading develops language skills, imagination and curiosity – precisely the abilities children need both at school and throughout life.

About the Albatros foundation

The Albatros Foundation was established in 2016 as a corporate foundation of Albatros Media, the largest publishing group in the Czech Republic.

We are guided by the belief that books, education and stories can open up new opportunities – especially for children and young people who do not have the same starting point.

We support children and young people from socially disadvantaged backgrounds, including Roma children and students. Since its establishment, the Foundation has distributed tens of millions of Czech crowns – hundreds of thousands of euros – and supported hundreds of children, students and partner organisations across the Czech Republic.

The Albatros Foundation has repeatedly ranked among the top corporate foundations in the Czech Republic. In 2026, Albatros Media received the Diversity Charter Award for its long-term support of Roma children and young people through education and scholarships.
